Awareness

Fun sad fact - 1 in every 2 women will experience hairloss in their lifetime. There are so many different forms of hairloss - it could be hereditary, chemo, cancer, stress, a reaction to medications or in most cases, just dumb luck. There are so many different variations of Alopecia out there that are different from one person to another but whatever the cause, it's all hairloss. Whether you've got a little bit or a lot of hairloss it's still hairloss.

Losing your hair can be really traumatic and shocking, you look into the mirror and you don’t recognise yourself. In an instant you have a full head off hair and then the next you have none, at least that was how it is for most women, including me. You don’t like looking in the mirror and you are so self conscious, even in your own home & sometimes its so bad you cant leave your house. Losing your hair brings a whole new world of insecurities, that you never even thought about. So when you lose your hair it's hard. Really hard. To look in the mirror and not recognise yourself anymore or worse when you hate what you see in the mirror it can cause so many women to spiral into depression. So many women hold on to hope that it will grow back and that hope can really disappoint. Some people have had random hairs regrow but in most cases it's not enough to recognise themselves again.

For too many years Alopecia wasn't talked about. At all. But today, due to how common it is and thanks to social media for raising awareness lots of people are talking about it. And there are endless forms of Alopecia. Little research has been done on it and there isn't a magic pill people can take to get their hair back, because if there was, wig shops wouldn't exist. But there are loads of scammers out there claiming if you buy this expensive product it will bring your hair back. The amount of women I've met who have rubbed onions, cloves of garlic, caster oil, rosemary oil, lotions, potions and injections with no signs of regrowth. The only thing you should consider taking would have to come from a specialised dermatologist and even that may not work.

Enter...Wigs.

Wigs offer a solution to hairloss. Whether your hairloss is temporary or permanent wigs can be the solution to get your confidence back, and looking in the mirror is doable again. They are so popular these days and even a highly sort after accessory amongst many people including celebrities. Alopecia awareness is crucial in raising understanding of this often misunderstood autoimmune condition. Alopecia can affect people of all ages, genders and races, and the healthiest people on the planet. Alopecia doesn't discriminate.

Raising awareness helps to create a more supportive environment for those experiencing hair loss. Events like Alopecia Awareness Month in September and Alopecia Awareness Week in November aim to educate the public and connect those living with Alopecia. These initiatives work to break down barriers and empower people to feel confident regardless of their hair.
